Onsite Commercial IT Technician

We are a locally owned IT company located on the west side of Madison, Wisconsin.

To be successful with our company you must be team oriented, highly productive, work unsupervised, and possess a strong work ethic. Good interpersonal skills are required.

We are seeking an Onsite Commercial IT Technician to represent our company in customer's homes and businesses. The technician must maintain a positive, customer service focused attitude throughout all interactions with customers.  General, well-rounded knowledge of advanced troubleshooting (hardware, software, PC, Mac) required. You must be able to interact with customers and co-workers in a helpful and professional manner.

Our Onsite Commercial IT Technicians serve our loyal customer base and contributes to the performance and growth of our company. The ideal candidate should have previous work experience repairing PC laptops and desktops and working with WiFi setups. The technician is responsible for managing and responding to the ticketing system, ensuring timely resolution, and escalating when appropriate. They should be organized, resourceful and capable of working independently with direction from more senior staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond on-site to support tickets.
  • Hardware & software installation & inventory management
  • Support/Manage servers (file servers, application servers, etc.)
  • Manage backups & recovery
  • Troubleshoot network issues
  • Update IT documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Full or Part-Time.
  • 1 hour minimum for each job.
  • 1099 Independent Contractor status is preferable. All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Operating Systems.
  • Experience and comfortable around Apple and Linux Operating Systems. (Mac OS, Debian, Ubuntu).
  • Knowledge of VLANS, Firewalls, Switches, Routing, and related network concepts.
  • Virtual and physical server administration.
  • Has a passion for IT and is eager to learn new skills.

Practical knowledge required for this position:

Networks:

  • VLANS, Firewalls, Switches, Routing, and related network concepts.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP & OSI network model
  • Understanding of network security
  • Network cabling (pulling, terminating, troubleshooting)
  • Enterprise WiFi/Access Points (Ubiquiti, Cisco)
  • Router & switch configuration/management
  • Network services like DNS, DHCP, VPN

Servers:

  • Virtual and physical server administration.
  • Hardware setup, troubleshooting proficiency.
  • RAID setup, management, troubleshooting / repair.
  • Remote access technologies (LogMeIn, TeamViewer, GoToAssist/PC, VNC, RDP...)
  • General familiarity with Linux (Debian/Ubuntu, RH/CentOS)

Hardware:

  • Desktops, Laptops, Tablets, and common mobile devices (Android, iOS, Window Phone, Chrome)
  • Firewall devices/Network Security (Fortinet, SonicFirewall, MikroTik, General Small Business Firewall Solutions)
  • Accessories including keyboards, pointing devices, scanners, printers, networking devices, Roku/Apple TV, routers and wireless devices.
  • Fileserver technologies (Cloud, NAS, Linux, Windows Home Server).
  • Assembly, disassembly and maintenance of all hardware components.

Software:

  • Working knowledge of currently available Microsoft Windows, Apple and Linux operating systems to include; installation, recovery, setup and updating of all current versions.
  • Anti-virus, security and firewall technologies including installation, setup, recovery and updating.
  • Microsoft Office application troubleshooting. (Office 2003-2016 + 365)
  • Microsoft Server: 2003 - 2016

Education:

  • A+ certification or degree in the IT field is desirable, however hands on work experience may be substituted for formal education.
  • Other certifications (expired or not) are a plus; CompTIA Network +, MSCA/MSCE, CCNA, CompTIA Linux+, other.
  • Ability to observe and integrate information and new skills via training, observation, and instruction.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for lengthy periods of time, up to 10 hours per day.
  • Ability to move computer equipment, cables and devices from one work unit location to another; access computer equipment below or above tables, desks, or shelves requiring kneeling, crawling, crouching, balancing, stooping, and reaching overhead; lift, carry, push up to 50 lbs.

Other Requirements:

  • Responsible for tools, must have own vehicle and vehicle maintenance. Valid Driver's License and insurance. Mileage is reimbursed.

Computer Repair Shop  Technician

We are a locally owned IT company located on the west side of Madison, Wisconsin.

We are seeking a shop technician to do PC and Apple hardware and software repair work both in shop and remote.  General, well-rounded knowledge of advanced troubleshooting (hardware, software, PC, Mac) required.  You must be able to interact with customers and co-workers in a helpful and professional manner.

Our shop technicians work a variety of tickets daily using our repair shop management software and serve our loyal customer base. They contribute to the performance and growth of our company. The ideal candidate should have previous work experience repairing PC laptops and desktops and installing/maintaining/updating software. Networking and WiFi experience is a plus.

Practical knowledge required for this position:

Hardware:

  • Internal components to include motherboards, ram, hard drives, video, sound, I/O, optical drives, ports and cooling systems.
  • Accessories including keyboards, pointing devices, scanners, printers.
  • Assembly, disassembly and maintenance of all hardware components.
  • Helping end users understand hardware.

Software:

  • All currently available Microsoft Windows, Apple operating systems to include; installation, recovery, setup and updating of all current versions. Linux experience is a plus.
  • Anti-virus, security and firewall technologies including installation, setup, recovery and updating.
  • Major software suites for office use including Microsoft Office, Open/Libre Office, WordPerfect Suite and Microsoft Works to include installation, setup, recovery and updating.
  • Internet browsing, email and communications software to include Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Edge, MS Outlook, Gmail, etc.
  • Helping end users understand software.

Technical Troubleshooting Skills:

  • Operating systems versus hardware components.
  • Peripherals
  • Spyware, anti-virus, malware removal and spam control.
  • Windows OS installation and re-installation.
  • WiFi and networking a plus.
  • Quickly identify failed hardware, research solutions and provide them with the customer's best interest in mind.

Education:

  • A+ certification or degree in the IT field is desirable, however we do value hands on work experience and it may be substituted for formal education.
  • Ability to observe and integrate information and new skills via training, observation, and instruction.

Physical Requirements:
